About
Personal:
I am involved in the Martial Arts and am a 3rd degree decided black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I continue to study and work towards my next level of achievement. The process of achieving and learning keeps me attuned to what students are experiencing and the learning process itself. It helps me empathize with my students and better informs my instruction. I continue to study music and compose as well. I like to read, hike, exercise and compose and of course practice.
I have been in the music business for over 35 years and have developed many unique ideas on music education and performance.
I have been in the performance field all of my life and continue to this day. I began studying piano at age 5 and continued throughout college and beyond. I also studied the drum set and learned guitar on my own. I continued my piano studies after college studying with many teachers including Mike Longo, Dizzy Gillepie's musical director for four years.
I also studied voice privately with Lynn Gallo for four years.
I worked with Westfield's own WYACT (now the New Jersey Youth Theater) and we opened up the Victorian Theater at the NJPAC with Carousel. I continued there for three years before moving on to other endeavors.
I have also made various recordings. Some were commercials and other were with the Julliard and Manhattan Schools of music. I appeared on WNCN radio for a live performance and performed on the college circuit throughout the east coast as well as at the 92 Street theater in NYC.
My interest in theater began when I answered an add to play with a local community theater group called Celebration Playhouse for a performance of "Guess What Happened on the Way to The Forum?" I was hooked and stayed with them for 4 years.
I also worked in the classical field and performed in jazz, popular and rock groups as well.
My experience teaching in the public schools gave me an insight into how students learn. I have had a keyboard lab in class for many years now and have developed a method to motivate students to learn and keep their interest going.
We offer these years of experience in teaching music to children and adults. Those interested in music as a hobby or a profession.
We look forward to serving the community and bringing music into the lives of all of our students!
